38 "I Love You" book prompts

DIY I Love You scrapbook tips and ideas from Small Company ArtworksI love romantic, sappy gifts, which probably doesn't surprise you, given what I do. So this year, I created a romantic, sappy "I love you" book for my wedding anniversary. And in the spirit of spreading romantic, sappy goodness all over the place, I'm sharing a DIY so you can make one, yourself.

more than "reasons i love you"

You know those fill-in-the-blank books with writing prompts? I made my own list of "reasons I love you," then added "things I want to remember," and then "things I'm grateful for." There's space to answer each prompt once this year, and again twice more. I think I'll fill it in every five years or so to capture how our marriage evolves.

Then I went back and created a section for a verbal snapshot of our relationship, like "our song" and my favorite moment from our wedding. I figured that section would be filled out once, when I first created the book.

Personalized gift for anniversary or wedding

How could you use an "I Love You" book like this? Let's see:

  1. For Valentine's Day (of course)
  2. As a surprise gift to your new spouse on your wedding day (just fill in the first section and save the rest for future anniversaries)
  3. For a first anniversary gift to your husband/wife (it's the "paper" anniversary!)
  4. As a romantic birthday gift for your spouse pretty much any year
  5. To send as a long-distance gift for a spouse who's deployed (or just traveling)
  6. For a unique bridal shower or wedding gift, give two blank copies of the book for the couple to each fill out for each other
  7. Or like I'm using it, as a surprise on a random anniversary because that's when you thought of it

If you're feeling crafty, you can use my prompts to create a DIY book completely by hand. I've collected a bunch of DIY book-making ideas over on Pinterest. These range from simple ideas, like decorating an existing album, to elaborate bookbinding and paper embroidery (!).

If you don't feel crafty (I'm the last person to judge you for that), you can use Shutterfly, Blurb, or one of the other online bookmakers to insert your text (and optional photos) and have it professionally printed.

We all know I'm not crafty, so I let professionals print my book. I added my favorite wedding photo to the cover, and kinda wish I'd included more pictures throughout. Live and learn.
